A Sommelier's Tour: A Day in the Barolo & Barbaresco wine districts

The world famous wines of Piemonte's Langhe wine district include the Barolo's and Barberescos.  This tour will take you through the fabulous landscapes of the area for visits to various wineries where you can sample the wines while discussing grape growing, wine making and food-wine complements with your guide, a somelier and chef, and with the vintners themselves.

You can enjoy lunch on your own or your guide will take you to a local osteria where you will enjoy the authentic cuisine of the Langhe.

Itinerary:

Morning

Your guide will meet you at your hotel, villa or b&b at an agreed time (between 8 am and 10 am);
Visit the Borolo region to visit one winery to explore wine-making processes but also to savour some of the wines.  You will also visit some of the ancient, off-the-beaten track towns and villages of the area.

Lunch

If you do not want to include the "lunch" option your guide will take you to one of the local towns where you can do a little sightseeing on foot and find a cafe or restaurant for lunch.  If you take the lunch option, your guide will take you to one of his favourite restaurants for more lessons on wine and food while eating a sumptuous meal.

Afternoon

The afternoon is devoted to the wines of the Barbaresco wine district.  You will visit at one or two wineries (depending on time) and do a little sightseeing in the villages of Barbaresco and Neive.  In Barbaresco your guide will take you to the Enoteca Regionale where you will find virtually every wine produced in the area.

After visiting the famous tower in Barbaresco,which offers stunning views of the Langhe and Roero districts, you will take a short walk into one of the famous "crus" of Barbaresco for a little vineyard "school" - just a a little excercise after a leisurely day traveling the Langhe's back roads, a sumptuous lunch and numerous samplings of a few excellent wines.

You will return to your lodgings between 6 pm and 8 pm.
